The Northeast Chapter of Back Country Horsemen of Washington is a dedicated, volunteer-driven organization of riders, packers, and trail stewards. We are united by one clear and vital mission: Keeping trails open for equestrian use on public lands.
Our work is built on several key pillars that ensure our heritage remains intact for future generations. We contribute significant 'sweat equity' through hands-on trail maintenance, from clearing downed timber and brush to repairing tread and maintaining trailheads. Beyond physical labor, we serve as a voice for the equestrian community by working in close collaboration with land managers and government agencies to ensure sustainable access to our wild places. We also place a heavy emphasis on advocacy and public education, teaching the importance of responsible backcountry use and 'Leave No Trace' principles.
We invite everyone to experience our community firsthand. Visitors are welcome to join us at most of our chapter activities, social events, and work parties—in some instances we require a signed release and waiver of liability for participation. It is our sincere hope that by joining us on the trail or at a meeting, our visitors will see the value of our efforts and eventually choose to join as members, helping us strengthen our collective voice and continue our mission of trail stewardship and camaraderie.
